Halloween costume memories

I have to give credit to my friend Cindy for this post today.   She inspired me with her darling Halloween home decor. I was delivering a Creative Memories order to her which included our new "Bats in the Belfry " coverset.

I was so surprised to see that she had  years worth of tally sheets from each year of trick or treaters coming to her door! She has a record of how many trick-or-treaters came, what  the weather was that evening and of course photos of her kids in their costumes.

I  can't wait to see her completed Halloween album!!

She also inspired me by showing me one of her round coffee tables  full of Halloween frames and each frame had a picture of her kids from throughout the years in their Halloween costumes. i'm not a big fan of Halloween but I did allow my children to dress up throughout the years to attend fall festivals  and when we moved to a larger neighborhood I started to join the Halloween fun by passing out candy and letting my kids trick-or-treat.

Cindy told me that many of the frames she had decorated herself so that inspired me to stop by the Goodwill on my way home and pick up a few frames of my own.  I got to work later that afternoon with Washi tape , ribbons and bows and digging up old pictures of my kids in their costumes.

Here are just a few that I was able to find. I know I have about 15 more photos that I'll need to print out but this was a good start for an afternoon project.

Thank you, Cindy, for sharing your ideas with me and giving my family a sweet tradition. I will pack these frames up along with our Fall decorations and next year bring them out again (and add our 2016 picture to the mix). These will look great on our mantle above our fireplace or on a coffee table with a basket of candy.

Do any of you have the Magnetic Display Board Creative Memories used to sell? I still have mine hanging near the kitchen. When I was going through old pictures of Halloween costumes I found a few gems that I just had to use to decorate my board:

That's it for now. I hope you all have a safe and yummy Halloween/fall festival!

Learn from Top Christian Women Leaders in Direct Sales

We’ve all seen it.
A Direct Sales dream story where the work-from-home lady makes millions and travels the world on her own schedule without ever having to miss her kid’s soccer practice. We wonder if it is really just a dream?
BUT we’ve also seen…
The woman working what seems like 24/7, not making much return on her effort, always posting desperately on Facebook and then her friends start avoiding her. We wonder if all of the direct sales opportunities would become a nightmare like that?
For many women, Direct Sales is the answer to real life challenges. Maybe they:
  • Have a job they can’t stand but need to replace the income
  • Need to contribute financially while also caring for the kids or for aging parents
  • Have a child with special needs or an illness that requires more days off than a traditional job would allow
  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and thrive on the freedom of building something all their own
  • Have debt they are committed to paying off once and for all and want to speed up the process
  • Had an unexpected life change through a spouse’s death or a divorce
  • Needing to retire but don’t have enough money saved to do so without drastically changing their lifestyle
Direct Sales can be a great solution to each of these needs! It offers freedom, a level playing field regardless of race, gender, education level, background, or track record. When Direct Sales is done right, it can change lives, help people achieve their dreams, and make it possible for them to give generously to others.
But you also know that one day you can see the vision and the next day, after a “no-show” or just a rude “no” you’re tempted to throw in the towel. It can be TOUGH building your own Direct Sales business. Don’t make it any tougher than it has to be!
Join me for a training where we will learn from the TOP Christian women leaders in Direct Sales. Why make our own mistakes doing it the hard way when we can learn from THEIR mistakes & successes and build our business much faster?
Monday, October 17th, 2-4 PM EST
If you are in Direct Sales (or hope to be someday), come learn from the BEST and save yourself LOTS of unnecessary hassle & hustle. These women have built success on their own schedule…and YOU can too!
I really hope you’ll join me! Oh, and if you know someone in Direct Sales who could benefit from this FREE training, please share this post with her. The more the merrier!

Decluttering tip: Digitize your Old Home Movies, Slides and Scrapbooks

Ahhh summer...when life pares down to the simple: flip flops and a towel.

Part of my decluttering mission this summer is to digitally transfer my outdated yet precious VHS home movies and slides.  Here is a decluttering tip:

This picture shows the comparison after I digitally transferred 3 old home movies onto DVD and Cloud storage. I went from taking 3-1/2 inches of space to just 3/4 inch (and no space at all in Cloud storage) - and this is just the beginning of my collection!

I'm in the process of getting all my movies, slides & scrapbooks digitized onto DVD and Cloud storage!! I love how uncluttered it feels to throw out my bulky media storage. This is what I do for my clients too  - I help people digitize their media before it deteriorates.

But more importantly, I love helping people celebrate the family connections made through reliving and sharing memories. We laugh so hard we cry when watching these old movies! My kids never knew their mom was so hip (thank you 80's) and that their grandma looked just like Angie Dickinson (thank you 70's). So many more gems to discover on this heritage hunt! I love my job as a Legacy Maker!  (I'll share a snippet pretty soon!)

DIY Guest Book with instax photos

Here is a fun idea for an interactive guest book. I picked up a mini burlap scrapbook from a local craft store to use for a recent surprise Anniversary Party.

The cover of the album was cute but no place for a title so I found a package of heart-shaped chalkboard tags. I wrote the couple's initials with a white Chalk Marker, then tied it to the front of the book with some twine. (The chalk marker dries quickly but can be wiped off with a wet cloth so if you make a mistake, it can be easily corrected.)

We set out an instax mini 8 camera (it's a mini Polaroid-type camera by Fuji) next to the album on the reception table. My daughter was stationed at the table to let guests know what to do. "Take a photo!"  "Tape it in the Book!"  "Write a Message to the Couple!" It was super fun to do and we got a lot of surprised and nostalgic comments about Polaroid memories...Fun!

We had plenty of film for the 100+ guests -- and were able to order in bulk through Amazon prime. It's also a good idea to have a few replacement batteries on hand just in case.

We also had a white pen and a black Creative Memories pen at the table for guests to sign the book next to their photo(s). And a couple rolls of decorative washi tape (Japanese removable masking tape) so guests could quickly tape their instax photo into the guest book:

On the first page of the guest book I put a photo of the happy couple (from their wedding 30 years ago):

Soon the book started to fill up with fun photos and special notes:

My son also walked around the party throughout the evening taking photos of guests who maybe didn't see the guest book as they arrived. We took some photos of the decorations and cake too...anything that will document this special occasion:

If you're into social media, you can have a mini chalkboard or sign out with the designated hashtag for your event. Here is an idea I found on Pinterest from BrideBox Wedding Albums:

Their chalkboard sign displays the hashtag they want guests to use to post photos of the event on Instagram.

Here's a cute wedding display from cocodaydream.com

One of the guests at my brother's Anniversary Party created a temporary geotag on Snapchat :

There are so many ideas to make guest books interactive and fun!  I hope you enjoyed these!
